Abstract

Study summary: This study aims to explore the role of social intelligence skills in improving the professional performance of information specialists, through a field study conducted at the libraries of the Dried Abdelmadjid University Pole – Bouhaf El-Dair in the Wilaya of Tebessa. The research stemmed from a central question: To what extent do social intelligence skills influence the professional efficiency of information specialists? It also sought to answer sub-questions that addressed the nature of these skills and how they reflect on the quality of library services and professional relationships within the workplace. The study adopted a descriptive methodology, which suits the nature of the topic, and relied on various data collection tools, including observation, questionnaire, and interview, allowing for a comprehensive approach from both theoretical and field perspectives. The spatial field consisted of the libraries at the University Pole in Tebessa, while the time frame extended from February to May 2025. The human field included seven (07) information specialists, with a randomly selected sample of forty (40) students. The findings revealed a clear awareness among specialists of the importance of social intelligence in their profession, particularly in aspects related to communication, effective interaction with students and researchers, and problem-solving in the workplace. The data also showed that possessing social intelligence skills directly contributes to improving performance quality, enhancing user satisfaction, and strengthening professional relationships
