Abstract

Study Summary This study aims to examine the impact of social stigma on the reintegration of ex- offenders into Algerian society. It is a field study conducted in the city of Bir El Ater, Tebessa Province. The central research question revolves around: How does social stigma affect ex-offenders in Algerian society? The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, using interviews as the primary tool for data collection, in addition to observation. The data was analyzed using the SPSS statistical software.The results revealed that ex-offenders face significant challenges in reintegration due to the negative perceptions held by society. These perceptions affect their social relationships and employment opportunities, leading to feelings of marginalization and isolation. The study also found that while family and community support can help mitigate the effects of stigma, it remains insufficient in the absence of effective reintegration programs.The study concludes with the recommendation to implement psychological and vocational rehabilitation programs for released individuals, along with awareness campaigns to improve society’s perception of this group.
