Species of the Lamiaceae family are renowned for their numerous biological activities. Among
them, Thymus vulgaris is known for its anti-inflammatory properties.
This study aims to evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of Thymus vulgaris.
Phytochemical analyses were conducted, followed by in vivo tests on Wistar rats in which
inflammation was induced using carrageenan.
The animals were divided into four groups: a control group without treatment, a group
receiving only carrageenan, a group treated with the aqueous hydro-ethanolic extract of Thymus
vulgaris, and a final group receiving both carrageenan and the hydro-ethanolic extract.
Phytochemical results revealed the presence of mucilages, tannins, saponins, flavonoids,
and alkaloids in the extract. The tests demonstrated a significant anti-inflammatory activity of
Thymus vulgaris, thus supporting its traditional use in African medicine for the prevention and
treatment of inflammation. |
